The annual strawberry tea took place this afternoon.  By tradition, it's held in the garden, but although the weather was fine today the garden was too wet from recent rain, and so once again it was held in the hall.  
We're not sure how old the tradition of the strawberry tea is, but we learn from a former matron that as late as the 1980s it was a very festive occasion, with marching bands and guest musical groups, as well as balloons and bunting, and the residents of th

Twice a year we hold a "fair" or jumble sale to raise funds for social activities.  Residents and (especially) staff put a lot of work into these.  This morning we held our Spring Fair.  The cake stall was particularly popular, but there were all kinds of items on sale, including the usual bric-a-brac and pre-owned clothing.  There was also a raffle; the prizes included a free Sunday lunch at the nearby Bay Horse pub.  We'll find out tomorrow how much money we made.
